Overview
While a good place to start, trying to fit in the EBD Pyramid can restrict how we investigate research questions. In this session we will explore additional research methodologies (such as ethnographic research or content analysis), compare literature review methods for when a systematic review isn’t appropriate, and investigate opportunities to combine the EDR with other public and controlled data sources.

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss research methodologies less frequently used in dental scholarship and identify potential applications.
  • Compare evidence synthesis methodologies and relevance for dentistry topics.
  • Review public and controlled datasets that can be used independently or combined with electronic dental record data for scholarship.
