The Office of Research is launching Innovate & Advance: Science Talk Series, a monthly event that will bring renowned researchers to the College to meet faculty and students, and to present their research to the community. The Innovate & Advance: Science Talk Series will cover a variety of topics that have an impact in oral health.
We extend a warm invitation for all to attend the inaugural Innovate & Advance: Science Talk Series presentation on Monday, May 20 from 12:30-1:30 pm in LHN. We are hosting Dr. Gill Diamond from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. Dr. Diamond is Professor in the Department Oral Immunology and Infectious Diseases. After receiving a Ph.D. in Genetics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Dr. Diamond began research into antimicrobial peptides, which are naturally occurring antibiotics found throughout the body. He has been studying how these peptides function in host defense against infections in the lung and oral cavity. Dr. Diamond has published prolifically in the areas of antimicrobial peptides and immunity; and has received extensive NIH funding. His current research efforts are focused on enhancing the expression of antimicrobial peptides to prevent infections, and developing novel antibiotics based on their structure to treat bacterial, fungal and viral infections.
