Guest Speaker: Dr. Jenny Fortun, Assistant Dean for Foundational Sciences Curriculum and Associate Professor of Cellular Biology & Pharmacology at FIU College of Medicine

The goal of this session is to introduce two types of assessment methods to test Written Assessments to Test Integration of Basic and Clinical Knowledge  diagnostic reasoning skills and application of foundational science principles that reflect the expectations of medical students in training, including the generation and prioritization of differential diagnosis (Entrustable Professional Activity 2), and the recommendation and interpretation of diagnostic tests (Entrustable Professional Activity 3). The session will be divided in three parts. In the first part, the collaborative approach to develop Critical Thinking Exams (year 1 courses), and Diagnostic Reasoning Exams (second year courses), will be described. The second part will focus on the review process, creation of scoring rubrics and collaborative scoring of exams. In the last part, we will have an open discussion about experiences with written examinations, faculty concerns, and opportunities for collaboration among institutions.
