- Average number of hours per day Americans spend on phones: 4 hours+
- Most common places where time is spent: Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube
- Most common associated risks: increased levels of anxiety, depression, poor sleep quality, and car injury or deaths.
The challenge:
- Check your screen time to see how much you are spending on your phone/day.
- Reduce this number to under one hour per day.
- Reflect on how this moderate detox has affected you this month.
To be eligible to win a self-care and wellness-inspired gift basket:
- You do not need to have been successful for the whole month but you must have tried and you must send a reflection via email to azuba1@uic.edu by January 5, 2022.
- Your name will be entered into the drawing once the reflection is received.
- All reflections will be kept private.
Tips for success:
- Monitor your screen time to determine average time spent on your phone/device.
- Go to settings > turn on screen time tracker
- Turn off notifications.
- Go to settings >notifications>turn them off
- Remove the above-mentioned Apps during the one-month challenge.
- Use an App that can block you out of your time-wasters.
