Presented by
Anup Katheria, MD Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics Director, Neonatal Research Institute Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women and Newborns
PURPOSE:
The activities will broaden knowledge base for clinicians to apply with their neonatal patients.
The goal of the Neonatology Seminar is to provide faculty with educational programs to address knowledge gaps in current practices and advancements in research for neonatal patients.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
Neonatologists, neonatal-perinatal medicine fellows, pediatricians, pediatric residents, neonatal nurses, neonatal therapists, pediatric subspecialists, and other neonatal providers
After completion of the activity, participants should be able to:
1. Understand the physiological mechanisms and clinical rationale behind placental transfusion and delayed cord clamping, especially in preterm and non-vigorous infants.
2. Evaluate the evidence from recent clinical trials (e.g., Vent-First, ABC3, DOXIE) to determine the benefits, limitations, and safety considerations of providing respiratory support during intact cord resuscitation.
3. Describe the practical implementation strategies, training requirements, and system-level considerations needed to successfully perform intact cord resuscitation across obstetric and neonatal teams.
