Purpose:
Amniotic Fluid Embolism (AFE) is a life-threatening event. Those working in the perinatal specialty need an increased awareness of identifying, treating, and managing patients with an AFE.
Objectives:
- Describe the clinical presentation and diagnosis of Amniotic Fluid Embolism (AFE).
- Describe the pathophysiology of AFE.
- Describe the immediate management of AFE, including roles of clinicians in an interprofessional team.
- Discuss post-AFE care.
- Identify options for research and case submission to the AFE Registry.
- Discuss support for clinicians and family members after the event.
- Describe best practices in education and simulation for nurses who provide care to patients with AFE
